My plan was to travel through Europe and the Polar Pioneer voyage coincided with time between tours. I was also aware of the company’s long background in Polar exploration and pioneering voyages for tourism in Antarctica.

RIght from the moment of boarding the Polar Pioneer in Reykjavik to disembarking in Longyearbyen, the entire trip was amazing. The knowledgeable staff were an absolute bonus and made the trip much more valuable. To be in such a different environment for a couple of weeks, when I am used to subtropical climates was a challenge, but worth every moment.

The ship just nudged up to the iceberg and off we walked. We then spent a good half hour afloat.

Travelling with only 54 passengers was a great experience as I got to know many of the other passengers. Everyone on board was really friendly, social and considerate towards each other. The main advantage of only having a small number of passengers onboard is that when you are transferring to and from Zodiacs, usually twice per day, it is quick and efficient and so little time is wasted.

I would recommend the trip to any who wants a personal, intimate, informative and exciting trip in the Arctic. It was excellent and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I can’t wait for my next expedition cruise, up the Amazon and Orinoco rivers aboard the brand new Le Champlain and my travelling partner and I have been very impressed with the service from iExpedition so far.

Exciting News: You can complete the Jewels of the Arctic cruise on the brand new Greg Mortimer during the Arctic seasons.
