Travelling Solo; You’ll never be alone on an iExpedition.

Expedition Advice

Thinking about exploring the Polar realms, but can’t find anyone to brave the icy chill with you. Don’t worry we’ll let you know the inside scoop on travelling aboard expedition voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic as a solo traveller and the best cabin options for you.

If you are considering a trip to Antarctica or the Arctic, then the chances are you are a well-seasoned traveller that enjoys adventure and is along for the journey and not just there to tick bucket list boxes. Our expedition voyages attract adventurous souls in all ages and nationalities, while the average age is between 50-80 years, we are increasingly seeing more people in their 30’s and 40’s joining our expeditions.

While these voyages are extremely intimate in the experiences that you have with the destination, on board the vessels it is a different experience. The expedition team are always friendly and social, as are the hospitality staff and this, in turn, reflects on the passengers. You will find yourself constantly mingling with the crew and fellow passengers, during your expedition landings and over the course of meals and lectures. Should you crave a little me-time, finding a private space in the library, lounge, or even the outer-decks (if they’re not frozen over) is never hard.

Really, as a single traveller on board an expedition voyage, you have the best of both worlds, endless mingling options available to you and when you need to enjoy time on your own, it is never far away.

As a single traveller on an expedition voyage, there are 3 main cabin options available to you;

Shared Cabin Options:

Almost every expedition vessel that we offer provides options for single travellers to share a twin cabin and avoid paying any single supplement. This means that you get on board without paying any more than a couple. If you are willing to share in a Triple or Quad cabin, you’ll pay even less.

Share cabin options are always gender specific, so if you are a male/female couple looking for a cheap option in a Triple or Quad cabin, you would need to consider that you would be separated across 2 cabins.

Single Cabins Options:

A small number of our vessels now have dedicated single cabins. While these cabin rates are higher than that of the twin rate, they are often significantly less than paying a single supplement.

Pay the Single Supplement:

If you travel by yourself and definitely want your own space, then you may need to consider paying the single supplement on a twin cabin. Single supplements on our vessels range in rates, the standard rates range between 1.5x – 2.0x the twin rate. However, a number of our vessels often have promotions on the single supplement and sometimes you can find voyages with no single supplement or a rate of 1.25x the twin rate.
