Snorkeling with Orca in Norway

Arctic

Our Snorkeling with Orca expedition has to be one of our most unique and exciting. Of course, you have to have a keen sense of adventure and not be too afraid of the cold.

The Orca, Humpback and Fin whales are most prolific around the Norwegian coastline over the winter months of November, January and February. At this time of year the Arctic waters off Norway are cold yet crystal clear, teeming with schools of herring and with just enough light penetrating the ocean.

This expedition is truly unique and anyone who is interested in whales, landscapes, photography and *Arctic winters*, should consider this voyage. Aboard the newly refurbished and heritage listed MV Malmo, the experience is incredibly intimate and the size of the Malmo allows it to follow the herring and Orca deep into the Norwegian fjords.

During the daylight hours of the voyage you will be in search of whales, while in the early and later hours of the day, you’ll appreciate the dim Arctic hues and its influence on the landscape during this time of year. Our experienced expedition team are experts on whales, Orca and the local region and will provide a range of lectures and presentations during this time also.

Snorkeling with whales and Orca in Norway

Snorkelers in the water with whales and Orca, Norway.

While snorkelling with Orca might seem unusual, they are not considered to be a threat to humans. Throughout history, there has only been one recorded but non-fatal attack on a human in the animal’s natural environment. While nerves before entering the water are completely natural,  once you are sharing the moment with a family of Orca fear will give way to the beauty of the moment that beholds you.

If we are really lucky, the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) will unfold above us.

This expedition travels with one of the leaders in polar diving activities, their experience extends as far as the Arctic and Antarctica. Diving experience is not required to snorkel with the whales and Orca. Equipment is provided including snorkel gear and dry-suit. Voyages depart and return from Tromso, Norway, which can be accessed by connecting flights from most European locations.
