    • Day 1 - Sitka & Hoonah Sound; Embarkation Day

Explore beautiful Sitka, the only community in Southeast Alaska that faces the open ocean waters of the Gulf of Alaska. Visit fascinating sites that highlight the community's rich Alaska Native and Russian history. Embark for the winding narrows north of town while searching for sea otters, bears, whales, and other wildlife. Anchor for the evening in Hoonah Sound, a protected body of water in Peril Strait.

    • Day 2 - Baranof Island

Navigate the remote northeastern coast of Baranof Island. This region includes many intimate coves and inlets, making it ideal for exploration. Opportunities include Hidden Falls, Takatz Bay, and Cosmos Cove.

    • Day 3 - Tenakee Inlet

Enjoy kayak and skiff adventures in Tenakee Inlet. Stretch your legs as you beach comb or hike along the beautiful remote coastlines of the area.

    • Day 4 - Icy Strait & Port Frederick

Ply the waters of Icy Strait, an area known by locals for incredible humpback whale viewing. Later, relish the serenity of Port Frederick.

    • Day 5 - True Alaska Adventure

Savor the serenity of raw wilderness on an unscripted day of Southeast Alaska discovery. The options are countless, dictated by the day's unique circumstances. Opportunities may include a coastline kayak paddle, up-close whale encounters, or a hike through an alluring old-growth forest. We may do a beach landing on an unspoiled shoreline to explore a tidal flat or track along with a foraging bear from the safety of our DIB (shallow water expedition craft). Regardless of the activity, you'll experience the magic of the archipelago's many remote coves, bays, and inlets.

    • Day 6 - Tracey Arm-Ford's Terror Wilderness

Journey through Tracy or Endicott Arm in the Tracy Arm-Ford’s Terror Wilderness, a place the famous naturalist, John Muir, referred to as, "A wild, unfinished Yosemite.” Renowned for its pristine waterfalls, towering icebergs, abundant harbor seals, and granite cliffs that rise from sea level to 4,000 feet, this wilderness is often referred to by locals as one of the most scenic areas in the state. Both of these dramatic glacial fjords offer stunning views of tidewater glaciers. Skiff excursions provide the opportunity to view the majesty of the area in even greater detail.

    • Day 7 - Frederick Sound

View entertaining Steller sea lions on their haul-out on Brothers Island while scouting for humpback whales in the world-renowned whale waters of Frederick Sound. Experience the thrill of viewing wildlife from the DIB. End the day in a remote, wilderness bay for kayaking, a relaxing beach fire, and a king crab feast. Options include Windham Bay, Hobart Bay, or Port Houghton.

    • Day 8 - Juneau; Disembarkation day

Disembark in Alaska's capital city of Juneau. Transfer to the airport or your hotel is complimentary.

    THE MISTY FJORD

The M/V Misty Fjord expedition vessel was custom designed for in-depth wilderness exploration of Southeast Alaska. Her hull is based on the design of well-proven Alaska commercial fishing boats for supreme comfort and stability while sailing the waters of the Inside Passage. The onboard experience features a plush interior with elegant teak finish, aft salon, spacious wheelhouse, and outer deck engineered for optimal wildlife viewing.

Itineraries on the Misty Fjord offer an opportunity to discover three distinct Native cultures, the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian, through visits to intriguing villages. These communities are among the least-traveled places in Alaska, and a visit can be a powerful experience.

To witness the spiritual way in which the indigenous people of Alaska are connected to the earth and to each other is inspiring. Many of the remarkable residents continue to subsist off the land and sea. As local Alaska Natives ourselves, we are grateful to be welcomed with open arms by our friends in several villages.

As you walk the streets and forests of these communities, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy several planned experiences, from dance shows to carving demonstrations. You may even witness several events unique to village life: a hunter’s return after a successful hunt of seal or deer, families working together to hang their harvest of sockeye salmon in a smoke house, or a ceremonial potlatch.
